Welcome to SYR 2013
The
International Association of Yoga Therapists' 2013 Symposium on Yoga Research
(SYR)
is the West's only comprehensive and widely publicized academic research
meeting devoted to yoga research. The first two SYR conferences
at the Himalayan Institute in 2010 and at the Kripalu Center for Yoga
and Health in 2011 attracted almost 200 and over 225 registrants,
respectively. Higher attendance is anticipated in 2013 as interest in
yoga research and application of research in the yoga field and in
integrative healthcare settings continues to grow rapidly.
SYR 2013 is a single-track academic research conference that includes both oral
and poster presentations by leading yoga research scientists. It is suitable for
researchers, clinicians, integrative healthcare professionals; yoga therapists;
and psychology and education professionals interested in yoga research.
This year’s symposium showcases some of the best new peer-reviewed yoga
research. Comprehensive Preconference Workshops fundamental to successful research are offered.
Throughout the conference participants have many opportunities to interact with
colleagues and develop collaborations and initiatives that may lead to future
research projects.
SYR 2013 Keynote Presenters
Each year keynote speakers are carefully selected for their reputation
and knowledge in the field of yoga research and their ability to discuss
its applicability in various settings. A third keynote presenter is yet to be
confirmed.

Preconference Workshops
SYR preconference workshops are offered to assist seasoned researchers in honing
skills and keeping current with opportunities and trends; these workshops are
also appropriate for those new to the field. Topic selection for the SYR 2013
preconference workshops represents two pillars of yoga research.

SYR

Location and Venue
( SYR
and SYTAR will be held back-to-back, June 11 – 13 and June 13 – 16
at the Boston Marriott Newton in Massachusetts. This is a cozy hotel,
set in a quiet, suburban location on 22 acres of scenic riverfront land
on the Charles River, 12 miles from the airport and convenient to I-90,
I-95 and downtown Boston.
